WASHINGTON. July 23,

Senator Robert Taft said today the United States will be a semi-military nation for the next 10 or 15 years end will spend at least 50,000,000.000 dollars yearly to meet the threat of Communist aggression. Senator Taft, chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, forecast radical changes in American life. Speaking in -a broadcast, lie said the United States was moving into a “newnormal condition” in which 20 per cent, of all production would be devoted to sustaining partial mobilisation Senator Taft, who advocated taxation increases to meet the whole cost ol rearmament instead of increasing the national debt, declaring that some oi President Truman’s economic mobilisation proposals w’ere-too drastic.

The Far East naval force announced that a 27,000-ton aircraft carrier arrived at a Japanese base from San Francisco in the record time of eight days sever hours. Aboard the carrier was the largest load of aeroplanes ever carried by a single ship.
