CRUTCHINGS 12½% UP AT AUCKLAND MID-WINTER SALE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 25 Auckland's mid-winter offering of crutchings. early shorn fleece and oddments met with a particularly good response from buyers at yesterday's auction, the first of the new season.
Prices were 12J per cent higher than last week's auction In the south where high prices had ruled. There was complete clearance to commercial buyers of the 6012 bales offered.
The top price of the sale was GGad. for a bale of half-bred hogget wool. A line of three bales of binned 'Downcross hoggets realised 64d. while a similar line of four bales of 'Down-cross lambs brought 61Jd. The top price realised for good medium to coarse crossbred crutchings was 57id.
High prices were also realised for early shorn wool and oddments. The official report of the Auckland Woolbrokers’ Association states that the offering consisted mainly of crutchings with a fair proportion of early shorn wool which sold exceptionally well.
There was a full and representative bench of buyers and competition total! woo! was keen. As compared with preceding auc(ions. prices for crutchings advanced by approximately 121 per cent. The United States. Bradford and local mills were the main buyers of crutchings while 'he Continent and Bradford operated on early shorn wool and oddments.
Prompt date for the sale will be August 11.
The following is the official range of prices Extra fine crossbred. —Good. 40d to 42d; average 3Gd to 38d; inferior, 32d to 34 d.
■Fine to medium crossbred.—Good 50d to 5.1 Jd: average, 46d to 49d; inferior. 42cl to 45d. Medium io coarse crossbred.—Good. 56d to 57id; average, 501 ato 55Jd; inferior. 47d. to 50d Inferior and seedy crossbred. —34d*. to 38d.
