MAORIS V. PAKEHAS MATCH TO WIND-UP RUGBY SEASON

Several fixtures were approved for the remainder of the season at a meeting of the management committee of the P.B. Rugby Union last night.

Durirjg the absence of the Poverty Bay representatives on the tour of Wairarapa, Manawatu and Hawke's Bay next month it was decided to suspend the senior competition on August 19, the day of the Hutt Valley versus Gisborne High School match, but to play competition games the following Saturday. August 9 and 16 are to be submitted to the East Coast union as alternative dates for the return match with the Coast representatives. Tolaga Bay is to be suggested as the venue. It was decided to wind-up the season with a Maoris versus Pakehas match on September 23 in Gisborne. Players would be drawn from the Poverty Bay union only. Mr. T. Dennis was appointed sole selector of the Maori team and Mr. A. E. Valentine soic selector of the Pakeha side. The annual match for the “Runfairly” Shield between the Gisborne Fire Brigade and the P.B. Referees is to be played as a curtainraiser.
