£25 FINE IMPOSED FOR UNCUSTOMED GOODS

AUCKLAND, June 23.

For being in possesion of uncustomed goods Andrew Burns Raeside, salesman, was today fined £25 and costs. The goods were recovered by the police and Customs officials hidden under the stage of a suburban theatre. They included 207 strings of pearls, 568 cameos, a quantity of jewellery, pens and pencils.

It was stated that because a Customs search was expected his employer instructed him to hide the goods. Raeside admitted that he knew the goods were uncustomed.

The magistrate, Mr. J. H. Luxford, said it seemed that Raeside had acted foolishly for his principal.
