HOGGET PRICES AGAIN HIGHER AT MATAWHERO SALE

Many good lines of store wether hoggets came forward at the weekly stock sale at Matawhero saleyards yesterday and the demand was such that values for the top cut were Is 6d to 2s a head dearer. The breeding ewes offering did not measure up to the quality In the entry of the previous week, and they were easier on the day. In fact, there were several passings.

The high rates of a week ago attracted a large entry of fat sheep. Fat ewes were somewhat easier, but wethers maintained their late rates. One pen of fat wethers were passed in at 70s and another at 725, the vendors not being content with those prices. The fat market was oversupplied. The better class of wether hoggets In the sale were commanding from 43s 3d to 46s 6d. the highest bid being paid for a line of 171 well-grown and wellwoollcd hoggets on account of Mr. K. Mclntosh, Tolaga Bay. Medium hoggets were traded at from 37s to 42s and smaller sorts 27s to 365. Two-tooth breeding ewes were making from 49s to 54s 3d the best of the m.a. drafts 40s to 47s 6d and those that were harder in condition 22s 6d to 355. Some of 'he individual prices were:

Seymour and Son, Kohata Station. 54s 9d. Empty Ewes.—Fifty-six, 26s 3d. In the larger than usual entry of fat sheep extra heavy wethers were fetching 67s 3d to 70s 3d. The top price was paid for 28 4-ths. offered on account Mr. O B. Ormerod, Waimata. Bidding was extended to 72s on another line of 50. but as that figure was 5s short of (he reserve no business was done. Medium wethers were selling at from 56s 3d to 62s and (hose with less finish from 48s 6d to 53s Gd. Maiden ewes made 58s. While the general tone for ewe mutton was slightly easier on the day, heavy ewes were making from 50s 9d to 545, medium sorts 42s 6d to 45s 9ri and those in lighter order were changing hands at from 35s Gd lo 41s.
