CHRISTCHURCH. June 5.

A very strong team has been chosen by British Isles for the ninth match of the tour, against Ashburton-North Otago at Ashburton tomorrow. The famous Welsh combination of B. L. Williams and J. Matthews will play in the centre, and the Irish wing M. F. Lane will return after standing down for several matches because of injury. M. C. Thomas, the young Welshman, will also play for the first time since the injury he received against Otago.

The intention obviously is to try out players for the test next Saturday. The team is:

Full-back—W. B. Cleaver. Three-quarters.—M. F. Lane. B. L. Williams. J. Matthews, M. C. Thomas. Half-backs—l. J. Preece, W. R. Willis. Back-row.—T. L. Clifford.

Middle-row—J. W. McKay. D. J. Hayward, J. E. Nelson. V. G. Roberts. Front-row. —G. M. Budge, K. D. Mullen, D. M. Davies. Hayward and Clifford will each be playing his eighth game in nine matches. On Saturday the team was entertained at a dance, but for the rest of the week the players in the second test team will be required to forgo practically all entertainments.
