The British United Press correspondent quotes reliable quarters as saying that General Smuts is suffering from coronary thrombosis. These sources say the news of the seriousness of his condition is being withheld from South African people as much as possible for fear of causing undue public alarm. Reuters correspondent in Pretoria says that a leading South African specialist, Dr. Frank Forman, at short notice, today flew 1000 miles from Cape Town to join two other specialists at the bedside of General Smuts at a farm near Pretoria.
