(PA) AUCKLAND, June 5. The Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting was opened at Ellerslie on Saturday in overcast weather with occasional showers. The track was soft. The attendance was 31,000. Paul won the Great Northern Hurdles in easy fashion and Prince Chat took the Cornwall Handicap by half a neck from Rating.

The doubles totalisator dividend, on Paul-Princc Chat, was £l5B/6/-, for 10/-.
