BOY OF 12 KILLED IN SMASH OF VAN

(P.A.) GREYMOUTH, April 1. A boy was killed when a butcher’s delivery van in which he was a passenger letf the Main South Road about two mile's south of Wataroa at 7.45 o’clock last night. The boy was:

Richard Murray Chant, aged 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Chant, of Wataroa.

The driver of the van, Mr. Eric Thomson, also of Wataroa, escaped injury. The van left the road at a slight bend. Apparently it somersaulted, the indications being that the boy Chant was thrown out and then struck by the van, suffering a broken neck. The van was wrecked.
