BRITAIN’S LOWEST DEATHRATE
LONDON. March 31. The annual report of the Ministry of Health, issued today, showed that Britain had its lowest death-rate on record in 1948-49. The total death-rate of 10.8 per 1000 reflected a 20 per cent, decline in the mortality index at all ages, compared with 10 years ago. Infant mortality and deaths from tuberculosis, measles, scarlet fever and whooping cough all dropped to record low figures.
