Marshall Aid Curbs Reds In Europe
(10 a.m.) NEW YORK, April 2. The Marshall Plan countries had increased their industrial production to an average of 15 per cent above 1938 levels, stated the Economic Co-opera-tion Administration report. It said that this very great progress in European recovery was largely the result of United tSates aid. However, the E.C.A. warned that the European Governments must redouble their efforts to close the dollar gap and make economic union possible before the Marshall Plan ended in 1952. Increased production and steps toward financial stabilisation had averted the immediate threat of Communistled revolts in several Marshall Plan countries. Communism had been placed on the defensive in all the participating nations.
