GISBORNE Y.M.C.A. HARRIER CLUB OPENS SEASON
The Gisborne Y.M.C.A. Harrier Club was officially declared opened last Saturday by' the president, Mr, H, A, R. Patterson. The 13 runners left from the Y.M.C.A. to cover the five bridges course of approximately 3i biles, via Fitzherbert Street, William Pettie Bridge, Kaiti Esplanade, Railway Bridge, Waikanae Beach, Grey Street, and Kahutia Street to Derby Street into Stout Street and back to the Y.M.C.A.
4 Although the runners are comparatively lit for this time in the season run-ins will not bo held until a few weeks hence, until the runners are accustomed to the distances.
An obvious depletion of members on the opening day was due to the fact that many stalwart supporters had given a day’s valuable assistance for the prefabrication of the Y.M.C.A. boys’ summer camp building to be erected at Opoutama at Easter. A larger gathering is expected for next Saturday’s slightly longer run, covering the Mangapapa suburbs.
