DAILY ROUND METHODIST LADIES’ GUILD
A good year of fellowship and service in the work of the church is expected by members of the Bright Street Methodist Ladies’ Guild, the annual meeting of which was held in the school hall on Wednesday. The Rev. E. B. Chambers presided and led the meeting in devotions. The secretary's report and treasurer's statement were adopted, and officers and members were congratulated on their successful year's work. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mrs. E. B. Chambers; vicepresidents, Mesdames H. J. Poole, F. J. Butler; secretary, Mrs. E. M. McCulloch; assistant secretaries, Mesdames L. Steele and J. Letcher; treasurer, Mrs. T. H. Garrett. Afternoon tea hostesses were Mesdames M. Bignell, J. Letcher, and T. Martin. GIFTS FOR THE BRIDE A recent bride, Miss Lois Sheppard, was guest of honour at several prewedding parties given by her friends. Mr. and Mrs. L. Barker, Bayley Road, entertained at a miscellaneous gift evening, when dancing and games were enjoyed. The bride, who was wearing a tailored pink and white silk dress, was assisted in opening her parcels by her sister and prospective bridesmaid, Miss Betty Sheppard, who wore a classic wine moss-crepe dress. A “kitchen and pantry’’ evening was given by Mrs. L. Ferguson, Ormond Road, whose drawing-room was decorated with pink belladonna lilies and large bowls of asters. Many useful gifts were unwrapped by the guest of honour, who had chosen a flowered suit with a white background, and Miss Betty Sheppard, who was wearing a duck-egg blue suit. Miss Betty Sheppard and Mrs. M. Patterson jointly entertained at the latter’s home in Hunter Street. Carnations and dahlias were the decorations. Many gifts of a miscellaneous nature were received by the bride, who was dressed in a green linen suit. Her sister’s blue suit was floral in pattern. PRE-WEDDING PARTIES In honour of Miss Arabell Friar, whose marriage to Mr. John Ginn, Christchurch, takes place on April 5, Miss Janet and Betty- Livingston invited friends to their mother’s home at Manutukc. Competitions were enjoyed, and afternoon tea was served. The bride-to-be was assisted bv her two prospective bridesmaids, Misses Janet and Betty Livingston, to unwrap gifts of linen and gifts for the bathroom. Bowls of dahlias, roses and Michaelmas daisies were the decorations in the house. The guest of honour was wearing a blue wool sheer frock. Mrs. H. B. Livingston wore a navy blue marocain frock with a white collar and cuffs. Miss Janet Livingston chose a navy crepe frock trimmed with hem-stitch-ing. and her sister, Betty, had chosen a floral silk frock. Luncheon Party. Miss Arabell Friar was the guest of honour when her sister, Airs. L. R. Shanks, invited friends to lunch at the Masonic Hotel. The chief guest, who received many useful miscellaneous gifts, was wearing a powder blue moss crepe frock trimmed with tucks and hem-stitching and offset with a pink and blue spray of Michaelmas daisies and dahlias, a matching blue hat and a fur. The hostess wore a jersey silk floral frock in pink, blue and green shades on a white background under a dusky pink coat and a blue hat. On the lunch table was a long trough of mixed flowers in autumn tonings.
