INQUEST WITHOUT BODY CONCLUDED BY CITY CORONER

A man who told his wife after lunch on Julv 20. 1948. that he was "just going down the town to buy a singlet and would not be long,’’ has not been seen since. This was revealed at an inquest held in Wellington on Friday into the death of Herbert Kitteridge, aged 67. retired billiard-saloon keeper. The coroner, Mr. W. G. Mellish, said that as no trace has been found of the man the Attorney-General had directed that an inquest be held. He found that Kitteridge died on or about the date of his disappearance and that as the body had not been found, there was no evidence as to the actual cause of death. All the circumstances had been fully investigated, said the coroner. Some time ago in the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Hutchinson had granted leave to the executor of Kitteridge’s will to swear death. There was no doubt that by some midadventure Kitteridge had died.
