HEAVY STOCK AND PROPERTY LOSS IN Q’LAND FLOOD
«1 a.m.) BRISBANE, March 13. A wall of rain following a disastrous cyclone has waterlogged most of Queensland except a small part in the south-west. The cyclone which crossed the coast near Carmila, lost most of its destructive wind intensity but kept producing heavy flood rains. At Windorah, in the south-west. 7000 sheep valued at £25,000 were found drowned on an island left in the sea of fioodwaters. Damage to Carmila township where every building required repairs, is estimated at £50,000. A relief train from Mackay has reached the township with building materials and work is proceeding at top speed in case of further rain. Fifty buildings were wrecked but most of these can be made habitable. Roofing iron, timber and furniture have been scattered for miles. Half the sugar cane crop in the district has been lost and immense damage to fences and farmhouses has occurred.
