Australia 425-4 Routs Border For 72 and 60: Ninth First-Class Win
(11 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, Jan. 16. Declaring with their first innings score at 425-4, the Australian cricket team in a match against Border at East London routed the home side for 72 and 60 and won by an innings and 293 runs in less than two days.
In the Australian innings, the opening batsmen, Morris and Archer were associated in a fine partnership of 197. The Border batsmen gave very feeble displays against a fairly hostile attack. McCool turned the ball sharply and W. Johnston’s six wickets were taken with spinners.
The openers, White and Lacey, put on 22 runs for the first wicket in the first innings, but thereafter the wickets fell quickly throughout the day. Border’s last five wickets in the first innings fell for 10 runs. In the follow-on. Border lost 25-5 and was all out for 60. This is Australia’s ninth first-class win of the tour and the sixth by an inn-. ings in 12 games. The other three were drawn. Scores:—
