COOK COUNTY MAY BE ENLARGED WITH WAIKOHU AREA

Agreement with a proposal to transfer properties from the Waikohu County to the Cook county was given by the Waikohu County Council at its meeting in Te Karaka yesterday. The proposal involves a number of properties totalling about 30,000 acres, and has been made in view of the access to the land being from the Ilangaroa Road in the Cook County. The proposal must be submitted to the Local Bodies Commission before the boundaries of the counties can be adjusted. It is hoped that agreement will be reached on all points before the suggestion is conveyed to the commission.

A plan and schedule of the properties involved in the proposal was received from the Cook County Council, and the proposal in general was agreed to by members of the Waikohu County Council. The latter body is to ask the Cook County Council to arrange a meeting between the two bodies to complete details of the proposed transfer. The chairman, Mr. A. A. Fraser, and Messrs. A. C. Bellerby and G. S. Bridge, together with the county clerk, Mr. ,T. G. Appleton, and the engineer, Mr. S. R. Currie, were appointed to represent the Waikohu County Council.
