Maximum Killing at Whakatu
Hot, dry winds that have scorched and parched Hawke’s Bay pastures are responsible for the present maximum killing effort at Whakatu. Because it is considered that the bigger sheep can hold their condition under drought conditions the management is giving preference to lambs, which are being slaughtered at a daily rate of between 13,000 and 14,000.
