Younger Swimmers Showing Promise: Well-Run Carnival

Spectators at last night’s swimming carnival at the Macrae Bath, conducted in good order by the Gisborne Surf and Swimming Club, received a strong impression that the future of the sport in Gisborne rests largely upon the shoulders of competitors now in the intermediate and junior classes. Between the veteran group of senior swimmers and the up-and-coming youngsters there is a considerable gap which it will take a year or two to fill.

Performances by senior swimmers in last night’s events indicated that some at least are beyond the stage of improvement, although still able to give a good account of themselves. In the younger classifications, on the other hand, there are good numbers of promising performers and the basis of competition is broader. Looking to the Future

The club's prospects of winning titles at this season’s centre carnival are not brilliant, but in future seasons it should be able to hold its own fairly well with southern clubs.
