Strike Move Stated To Have Been Defeated By Ballot of Miners
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 21. The counting of votes cast in a secret ballot conducted among Waikato coal miners on a proposal to go on strike was comDlet.ed at the week-end. Although officers of the Northern Miners’ Union declined to announce the result vesterday, it is understood that the strike move was defeated by a considerable margin. According to one unofficial report the majority was 10 to one.
When approached at Huntl.v, the acting secretarv of the union. Mr. G. Lawson said he had ‘‘no news.” It is believed that the result of the ballot will be officiallv conveyed to miners when thev report for work today.
