TRAMWAYS STAFF FOR WELLINGTON SOUGHT IN SOUTH ISLAND
(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 3. The Invercargill office of the Department of Labour and Employment has received a circular from the head office Wellington, requesting the local office to attempt to obtain applications for the positions of conductors of trams in Wellington. s The circular states: “The deterioration of the staffing position in the traffic branch of the Wellington city corporation tramways has progressed to such an extent recently as to become critical. Maintenance of the city transport service, which is already seriously curtailed with present rate of staff recruitment, is impossible and unless sufficient staff can be obtained to at least replenish the high wastage further and grave restriction of the services cannot be avoided. “While the position is not so serious at Auckland at the moment there are indications that it is rapidly becoming so.” Accommodation for men not married will be available in the department's "amps with tariff at 37s 6d a week.
