CONCERN IN SOUTHLAND OVER STANDARD OF FERTILISER SUPPLIES
(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 3. Concern at the standard of superphosphate being received by many Southland farmers was expressed by members at a meeting of the Agricultural section of the Southland provincial executive of Federated Farmers yesterday. A remit from the Limehills branch raised objection to “farmers paying a high price for super in its present condition.’’
This view was supported by several members, who said that they had heard complaints from dozens of farmers. “We are paying a high price for rubbish and it is time something was done about it.” said Mr. J. Hazlett.
A big proportion of the supplies appeared to be sticky and wet and there had been cases reported of fertiliser clogging machinery and, in some instances, causing damage. The fertiliser works had been approached and some of the companies had installed new machinery to improve the standard, said the chairman, Mr. F. M. Henderson. He agreed that the moisture content was ope of the main problems.
