SUPREME COURT LIST IS LENGTHY : 3rd WEEK JURORS
With four criminal trials and three civil actions set down for hearing by judge and jury at the quarterly session of the Supreme Court in Gisborne, which commences next Tuesday, preparations have been made for the service of jurors on the third week. It is many years since Gisborne has had a list requiring provision for jury service in a third week of the sessions. The sessions will be presided over by Mr. Justice Hutchison. It is expected that the first week will be occupied with the hearing of charges of false pretences and theft and two and a-half days have been set aside for other criminal trials involving alleged breaking, entering and theft, alleged forgery and uttering and alleged failure to stop and negligent driving causing bodily harm. There will be one prisoner for sentence on a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge. In the civil section of the list appears a claim for £IOOO damages on the grounds of alleged false representation concerning the sale of a pastrycook business; a claim for £2OO for work done and £BOO damages for alleged breach of contract; and a claim for £365 special damages and £SOOO general damages for alleged negligence causing the loss of a leg. Before the judge alone there will be an application for admission of proof cf debt and an application for discharge in bankruptcy, undefended petitions in divorce and motions for decrees absolute.
