Better Air Service To Gisborne Wanted

In a report to a meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, Mr. C. B. Hansen said he had recently visited Tauranga, where chambers of commerce were in conference with officers of National Airways Corporation on the subject of improving the air services between various centres.

Mr. Hansen said it had been stated a better service than the existing trial one would be from Auckland to Hamilton and Tauranga, and on to Gisborne. Today a passenger from Hamilton to Gisborne had to proceed via Palmerston North and Napier to reach Gisborne. However, lack of aeroplanes was retarding the introduction of more services, and the shortage was not likely to be overcome until 1952, unless the Government departed from its policy of State-operated services and allowed private enterprise to introduce feeder services.
