£2,000,000 TOWN FOR VICTORIAN WATER SUPPLY PROJECT

MELBOURNE, Nov. 1. As the nucleus of a model township for the Eildon weir project, the Victorian Water Commission has ordered from England 300 pre-cut timber houses costing £400,000. Four hundred more will be ordered later and the total cost of the township will be £2,000,000. Specifications for enlarging the weir from 350,000 to 2,300,000 acre feet are now being prepared, and tenders will be called early in 1950. The State Minister for Water Supply, Mr. H. E. Bolte, said that the project merited an advance from the International Monetary Fund, and that American earth-moving firms should be allowed to tender.
