SHEEP MARKET RATES MAINTAINED AT MATAWHERO

Fat sheep came forward in fairly good numbers at the fortnightly stock sale at the Matawhero saleyards yesterday, but the store section again was poorly supported in regard to entry. Young fat ewes, off the shears, made from 3ls to 31s 7d, medium sorts 27s 6d to 295, and lighter 25s 3d to 26s 6d. There was a fairly good top of goodcutting ewes. ’Down 2-ths without the wool, made from 28s to 325. Woolly ewes sold at from 30s to £2. Woolly hoggets made 445. Finally, there was a pen containing 207 2-th wethers, a useful line, which did not sell at the 33s Id offered. There was a keen demand for a good entry of pigs, the market being stiffened bv two buyers from the East Coast. As a consequence, weaner values rose about 2s a head on the day. Weaner pigs realised from 37s to £3 5s and stores from £2 7s to £3 Is. No beef came forward.
