FISTS FLY AT WILD MEETING OF IRON WORKERS
ADELAIDE, Sept. 2. A meeting of the Iron Workers’ Association broke up in wild disorder with lists flying alter the chairman refused to accept a motion that the next election of officers of the union in December bo conducted by the Federal Arbitration Court.
The motion was strongly supported by a large section of the moderates who demanded that a vote be taken. The general secretary of the union. Mr. E. Thornton, who recently visited Russia, was present but the crowd would not permit him to make himself heard.
A vote was refused and, after half an hour of continual uproar, several fights began.
When the chairman adjourned the meeting, the moderates carried on amt passed a resolution stating that, to avoid Communist malpractices, the Arbitration Court should conduct the poll.
