MOTU NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) Confirmation Service. Last Tuesday evening the Bishop of Waiapu, the 'Rt. Rev. N. A. Lesser, accompanied by the Rev. P. Blakeston, paid a brief visit to Motu to confirm the Misses F. and B. Whitehead, in St. Paul’s Church. Following the service a social hour was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Peddle, Motu. enabling parishioners to meet the bishop. The sittingroom was gay with spring bulbs, and a delicious supper was served by the hostess and guild members. Prior to the service His Lordship and Mr. Blakeston were entertained to dinner by Mr. and Mrs. X- G. Nisbetl at their home, “Bracmar,” Motu. Five Hundred.

The winners of the five-hundred tournament, held in the Motu Hall on Thursday, were: Ladies, Mrs. W. Gosling; gentlemen, Mr. D. Nisbett. Fancy Dress Ball.

A fine evening on Friday enabled most of the young folk from Motu and Motuhora to attend the children’s fancy dress dance held in the Motu Hall by the committee to raise funds for hall repairs. Supper was served by the ladies of the district, and music was supplied by Mr. H. Lenanc- Prizes were awarded for the best costumes, the judges being Mrs. F. Baird, Motuhora, Mrs. N. G. Nisbett, Motu, and Mr. 11. Lenanc, To Karaka. The prize-winners were:— Stds. 2-8. —Girls, ocs; costume: Rerekohu and Lovie Brown (Hawaiian girls). Most original: Shirley Gosling (question mark).
