Waihuka Station To Pass Into Crown's Possession
The 10,600-acre Waihuka station, long known in the district as an outstanding source of stud stock, shortly will pass to the possession of the Crown, with a view to its sub-division for servicemen's settlement. The Crown’s acquisition of the property has been the subject of lengthy negotiations which have now been brought to a head. Located just north of the Waikohu railway station, with frontages to both the north highway and the old Motu road, the Waihuka property is the home of Messrs. Hutchinson Bros.’ widely-known Hereford stud, from which many other pedigree establishments have drawn much of their finest blood. It also has been recognised as a thoroughly efficient sheep and cattle farm, on which in recent years there has been notable development. The Hereford stud is not to be dispersed, but will be transferred to another property. It is expected _ that the Crown will take over the station early next year and will begin immediately thereafter the process of sub-division for servicemen’s settlement.
