RESIGNATION OF LABOUR LEADERS
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 12. Mr. John Roberts, president of the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee for many years, and Mr. F. L. Langley, a member of the executive, tendered their resignations at a meeting of delegates to the committee last evening. The meeting decided not to accept Mr. Roberts’ resignation and at his request he was given a fortnight in which to reconsider his decision. The meeting also passed a resolution refusing to accept Mr. Langley’s resignation. He, too, was asked to take a fortnight in which to reconsider his decision, but is reported to have informed the meeting that his mind was fully made up and that he could not continue as a member of the executive. Mr. Roberts is reported to have expressed uneasiness at the result of the referendum on compulsory military training and concern at the submerging of many of the original planks of the Labour Party.
