GIRL’S “RISK” IN MARRYING PRISONER

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 13. “I am impressed with the terrific risk she is taking,” commented Mr. Justice Finlay in the Supreme Court today. Counsel had told His Honour that the prisoner, who had 25 convictions, had recently married a 19-year-old girl who knew all about him and had confidence that he would stay on the right path. The prisoner was Cyril Albert Dixon, aged 28, who pleaded guilty to theft. Counsel in asking for leniency said the prisoner seemed to have been unable to resist the temptation of stealing or converting motor-cars. The judge imposed a sentence of two years’ reformative detention, stating thal this would later put Dixon under control of the probation officer.
