AUSTRALIANS’ GAME AT GISBORNE

The New Zealand Rugby Union has nominated Mr. F. Bayliss, a Gisborne referee, to control the match between the Australian touring side and the P.8.-East Coast team, to be played in Gisborne on August 24.

This game will be the feature attraction of the 1949 season so far as Gisborne and contiguous districts are concerned, and in view of the expressed intention of the Australian coaches to adopt some of Ihc recently-evolved scrum tactics of the Springboks, it is likely that the control of the play will require a steady and capable hand.

Mr. Bayliss has been a senior referee in Gisborne for the past four years, and was nominated by the N.Z. Rugby Referees’ Association as an official qualified (o handle _ fixtures of the standard associated with the Australian team’s tour.
