DANGER OF WAR DISSIPATED, SAYS DR. EVATT
DARWIN, June 13,
The danger of another war seemed to have disappeared, said Dr. H. V. Evatt, who arrived back in Australia late last night after three months abroad.
He added that it was clear that international tension which had been so acute six months ago had eased considerably. The United Nations was struggling for international peace, based not on appeasement but on justice and also for better conditions of life throughout the world—the strongest bulwark against the forces of extremism and violence.
"The danger of a physical conflict seems to have passed away,” said Dr. Evatt. “The General Assembly demonstrated at New York a spirit of active conciliation which marked it out as an undoubted success.
“There are many difficulties ahead and it would be foolish to predict too large an area of agreement between the great Powers. None the less, they have been brought togther and are consulting.”
