MOSLEM LEAGUE WANTS RECALL OF BRITISH GOVERNOR
(11.30 am) LAHORE, May 23. The working committee of the West Punjab Moslem League today demanded the immediate recall of Sir Francis Mudie, British Governor of the province and the appointment of a Pakistani in his place. Sir Francis assumed the administration of the province in January when the Governor-General, Mr. Khwaja Nazimuddin, dismissed the provincial Government and Legislative because ‘‘public life had been demoralised by corruption." He recently has been criticised by a section of the Pakistan press.
The committee alleged today that the Administration “as presided over by a European Governor had been indulging in intrigues to sap the league from within and without.
“The autocratic regime under the Governor has assumed unprecedented proportions,” it added. The league claimed that "special care had been taken of elements who wore the apronstrings of democracy during the days of British imperialism.”
