CANKER PROBLEM IN TAURANGA

Whi'e no outbreaks of citrus canker have been reported in the Tauranga district for the past seven months, there were four cases in 1948 involving the destruction of 77 trees. Forty of those trees were infected and 37 were guard row trees. The orchard instructor and secretary of the Tauranga Citrus Canker Advisory Committee, Mr. F. L. Bailey, reported in that manner to the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Citrus Growers’ Association. Systematic inspections had been carried out in the infected areas and 123 orchards had been checked within the past year.
