Extra Mural Fees Of Hospital Staff To Go To Board

(P.A.) NELSON, May 19. The Minister of Health, Miss M. Howard, has refused the Nelson Hospital Board’s request that fees earned by members of the medical staff in carrying out work, apart from their hospital duties should be retained bv doctors and has laid down that the fees must be paid to the board. Advice to this effect was received by the board chairman, Dr. D. C. Low, who said that the board had always been in favour of doctors fctaining fees and there had never been any trouble about them. He thought the board should pursue the ouestion further. The managing secretary. Mr. W. H. Galbraith, said the fees concerned were those paid for certificate insurance, mental, court, post mortem, pension and social security examinations and for consultations for outside practitioners. The chairman said the fees amounted to only about £3O a year between the whole staff. ( i/iii r, !:i!i!!ii!!iiiriiiii !! !i!!— iiiuiiiniiiiiUiititiijiinnTinitimDTTniiiniiTnirtTirooitTJDniiiii
