CONFESSION TO THEFT OF PARTY FUNDS

(P.A.) PALMERSTON N., May 17. Cleve Edmund Allen, aged 33, formerly secretary-organiser of the Palmerston North branch of the New Zealand National Party, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court today to the theft of £792 of party funds and the forging of an audited balance sheet. Allen disappeared after inquiries began into unpaid party accounts and was arrested in Hawke’s Bay last week. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
