NEW APPROACH TO PROBLEM OF CARING FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. The National Party’s policy will make provision for a new approach to the urgent problem of caring for the aged, said the leader of the party, Mr. S. G. Holland, addressing the annual meeting of the Canterbury division today. “Before I left for Australia I set up a special committee to investigate this pressing problem,” said Mr. Holland. “The committee has not completed its inquiries but has presented an interim report and is now going further into the matter. “Sufficient has been learned to establish the need for some additional provision for elderly folk, many of whom at present occupy hospital accommodation but are in need of supervision rather than medical treatment.” .
