ESCAPE BY PRISONER FROM TRAIN RETOLD IN POLICE COURT

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 17. A prisoner who jumped from the Wel-iington-Auckland express near Horotiu on April 13 while being escorted from Wellington to the Auckland prison pleaded guilty in the police Court yesterday to a charge of escaping from lawful custody. He was Wilfred Edward Hall, alias John Lund, farmer, aged 38 Thomas McKeown. a warder, said the prisoner had escaped as the train was slowing down. He ran to the head of the train and escaped over a fence.

Detective Mathieson said that he recognised the accused as he was aiming out of an hotel and arrested him.

The prisoner was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
