Fire-Damaged Tunnel Reopened For Traffic
(10 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 16. The New Jersey to New York tube of the Holland tunnel under the Hudson River was reopened yesterday after being closed 56 hours. A 300 ft. section was battered by a series of explosions and fires on Friday and 66 people were overcome by fumes. Week-end motorists driving through the tunnel were amazed that the enormous job of clearing away 650 tons of debris and digging out more than a dozen destroyed trucks and trailers was done so quickly.
