DOCTOR SUCCUMBS 11 MONTHS AFTER SUICIDE BY WIFE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 16. Eleven months after his wife committed suicide in the surgery at his home a r t Onehunga. Dr. Raeburn Neil Campbell, aged 45, was found unconscious in the same room on Saturday night. Artificial respiration and heart stimulants were administered by a police surgeon, but the measures were unsuccessful and Dr. Campbell died shortly after 10.30 o'clock.
Earlier in' the evening Dr. Campbell visited a house at Remuera where, it is alleged, a married woman was assaulted. She was later admitted to tho Auckland Hospital for observation of iniuries to her head. Her condition last night was not serious. Dr. Campbell was found in his surgery by his father, who lives with him, shortly after 10 p.m. Mr. Campbell, senior, had heard his son arrive home about half an hour earlier. He went into the surgery to talk to his son and saw him lying unconscious on the floor.
At the inquest into the death of Mrs. Vivien Rose Campbell, aged 34, last August. Dr. Campbell said that after attending an arts ball on June 23 his wife had locked herself in his surgery and taken some drugs. He later found some capsules on a couch and he applied artificial respiration to his wife, but her condition deteriorated and she died at about 4.30 a.m. on June 24. A verdict of suicide was returned by the coroner at the inquest.
