CRITICISM OF NEW SCHOOL INSPECTORS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 14. The qualifications of some of the appointees to the primary school inspectorate were discussed at today’s conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute. A discussion followed a motion that the Education Department be asked to discuss with the institute the organisation of and appointments to the primary school inspectorate. Mr. A. L Ferguson (Auckland) said a number of people were disturbed about recent appointments to the inspectorate. In the past inspectors were generally teachers of a number of years’ experience, but some of the recent appointments, ho said, had given rise to some disquiet as there was some doubt that the men had the necessary qualifications.

At this stage the conference went into committee and after resuming in open meeting adopted the motion.
