SWIFT RETURN TO NORMAL LIVING FOR BERLINERS

(11 a.m.) BERLIN. May 8. United States and British zonal officials instructed the German railways in Frankfurt to get as much transport as possible ready to move when the blockade of Berlin is lifted at midnight on May 11. It is believed that 18 trains daily both ways is the maximum the BerlinHclmsstedt and Berlin-Oebisfelds railways can take. The American military post commandant, Colonel Willard, said that normal facilities would be re-estab-lished in Berlin as quickly as possible after the blockade is lifted. Petrol rationing would end on May 16, closing hours of clubs would be extended, the ban on parties removed and snack bars reopened. “We are going to return to normal living,” he said.
