NARY A SNAKE!
An Australian by birth, Mr. E. F. O’Brien has been accustomed for many years to defending his native country against the allegation that it is overrun by snakes and other reptiles. On his return from a recent holiday visit to New South Wales and Victoria, he was able to report that throughout the whole period, which included shooting and fishing trips in the “Never-Never,” he saw not a single representative of the snake family! The Gisborne businessman admits, however, that his visit did not coincide with the season of reptilian activity, the cooler weather having probably driven the snakes into winter quarters for their long hibernation.
