GOODS MUST BALANCE WAGE RISE: FARMERS’ FEDERATION’S VIEWS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. April 14. He would like to know where the extra goods were coming from to balance the extra purchasing power which would be created by the increase in the standard wage rates, said Mr. A. P. O’Shea, secretary of Federated Farmers, Inc., commenting on the wage pronouncement of the Court of Arbitration.

“We have heard a great deal about the need for balancing money with goods,” said Mr. o‘'Shea, “and it looks to me as if this decision is simply a starting-up of the wheel again.” The effect which the decision may have in the dairy industry will be considered at a meeting of the Dairy Products Marketing Commission, to be held shortly. No comment on the wage decision was made yesterday by either the New Zealand Employers’ Federation or the Federation of Labour, who were the parties who made the application to the court.
