INDIA PLANS FOR STRONG NAVY WITHIN 10 YEARS
(10 a.m.) NEW DELHI, April 7. Vice-Admiral William Parry, Chief of the Naval Staff and flag officer commanding the Royal Indian Army, said today that within 10 years India would have a navy worth its name. He said that India’s strategic importance and independent status demanded an adequate navy. Vice-Admiral Parry leaves for Britain tomorrow to discuss the acquisition of more ships, plans for a naval dockyard, training of junior officers in Britain, and naval aviation and armaments.
