(10 a.m.) LONDON, April 7. When Mrs. L. Hawkins, general secretary of the Housewives’ Association, was given news of the food price increases over the telepohne her comments were: Cheese: “Good gracious!” Meat: “O-o-oh!” Margarine: “Yes.”
Butter: “Good Heavens above!” When Mrs. Hawkins had recovered her breath she added: “It’s amazing! It’s disgusting! It’s high time we took some kind of action; in fact, we shall do so. Sparks will fly.”
