U.S. ARMY DAY CONGRATULATIONS FROM N.Z.

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 6. The Minister of Defence, Mr. F. Jones, has sent the following message to the United States Secretary of Defence. Mr. Louis A. Johnson:—

“I should like to extend my congratulations on the occasion of United States Army Day. and through you to send greetings to all members of the American Army "The Government and people of New Zealand remember with affection the fine qualities of the men who visited this country with the United States Army during the recent war. The bonds of friendship forged in the Pacific, in Africa and in Italy are. and remain, a source of great satisfaction to us in the sombre recollection of war “The co-operative and cordial relations which sprang up between us in those anxious days have resulted in a lasting sense of goodwill towards your Armv and. in fact, towards the whole people of the .United States.

“I am. therefore, happy to have this opportunity of conveying to you personally and to all ranks of the American Army our best wishes for the future.”
