RUSSIA OPPOSES CHANGES IN WEST GERMAN BORDERS

(10 a.m.) LONDON, April 5. The Russian Ambassador in London has handed a Note to the British Foreign Office protesting against the rectifications of Germany’s Western frontier, announced by Britain, the United States, France and the “Benelux” States last month. The Note describes the rectifications, which involve the cession of 52 square miles of Germany to Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, the Saar and France as “unlawful.” It adds that the rectifications also contravene the “declaration of the defeat of Germany” signed by Russia, the United States, Britain and France in 1945.

That declaration, the Note claims, lays it down that a frontier rectification can be made only by the joint decision of the four wartime Allies. Similar Notes have been sent to France and the United States.
