RAIN STOPS N.Z. TEAM’S NET "KNOCK” AT LORDS

(9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Ap. 5. Grey clouds which eventually unburdened themselves of rain hung low over Lords cricket ground this afternoon when the New Zealand team had its first net practice in England.

Before the players were sent scurrying for shelter where eager, übiquitous autosraDh-hunters lay in waiting, the

majority had 10 minutes’ knock and the bowlers all the exercise they required. Several prominent English cricket writers were there to get their first glimpse of the visitors, “Patsy" Hendren had a firm handshake for Mr. Phiilipps, W. j: Hadlee and Wallace and best wishes for a successful tour—

“See you win that first test match,” he commanded—and the press photographers worked busily and smiled happily at the New Zealanders’ cooperation. The pitc.ies were soft and therefore slow, but all the players declare they were pleased to be “out in a paddock” again—a new despription for Lord's famous nursery! Discerning eyes approved the“correctness” and timing of Sutcliffe and were impressed by the ability of Cresswell to vary his pace.
